Aischylos debutoval krátce před tím, než Athéňané odhlasovali podporu povstání proti perskému králi, čímž spustili několik desetiletí trvající vojenský konflikt a mocenské soupeření s Persií. Průběh tohoto konfliktu a následné nabytí hegemonního postavení v řeckém světě přinesly prakticky kontinuální vojenskou angažovanost a velké množství obětí. Ideologie Athén Aischylovy doby pracovala s hérojskými koncepty cti, které umožňovaly získat, udržovat a rozvíjet hegemonní postavení a τιμή s ním spojenou. Toto politicko-společenské směřování si vyžadovalo též novou konceptualizaci vztahu individuálního a kolektivního. | cze |

| dc.description.abstract-translated | In this paper I examine the discourse of honour and shame in Aeschylus' drama. I trace the ways in which this discourse is exploited, manipulated or problematized. I conclude that in most of the analyzed cases this discourse is problematized (Sept., Ag., Suppl., Pers.) or its ambivalence can also be implied (Pers.). Aeschylus' revision of the Homeric concept of undying glory (κλέος ἄφθιτον) is quite clear. War in general and the heroes of Aeschylus' tragedies are problematic, and the emphasis is clearly on the suffering and overwhelming consequences that war brings, whether for members of the ruling families or for the polis. Only rarely can we find examples of unproblematic uses of this discourse that show continuity with the Homeric world, for example in terms of the form of the death of the warrior. This is probably due to the experience of Aeschylus' generation. Aeschylus made his debut shortly before the Athenians voted to support the revolt against the Persian king, triggering several decades of military conflict and power rivalry with Persia. The course of this conflict and the subsequent acquisition of a hegemonic position in the Greek world resulted in virtually continuous military involvement and a large number of casualties. The ideology of the Athens of Aeschylus' time worked with heroic concepts of honour that enabled the acquisition, maintenance and development of hegemonic status and the τιμή associated with it. This political and social orientation also required a new conceptualization of the relationship between the individual and the collective. | eng |
