The present article pursues to answer why Daniel Ortega’s regime in Nicaragua has been negligent in dealing with the pandemic COVID-19. The hypothesis is that such negligence has economic and political motives because the country’s economy is predominantly informal, and it has been affected since April 2018 when the sociopolitical crisis started. The author focused on the human security dimensions of economy, health, and politics. To this end he mainly analyzed data on employment and social security affiliation and how these have been affected during the pandemic. |
