dc.description.abstract-translatedThe main goal of the article is to explore the relationship among the institutionalization of Bolivian indigenous movement and its dynamics in the sense of the employment of extra-institutional strategies (mobilizations, protests, etc.) and its internal cohesion in the period between 1997 and 2014. The purpose of this study is to capture the possible change in the institutionalization with the arrival of Morales to power in 2006. Based on the data collected in Bolivia during field research and on the analysis of the Bolivian press we conclude that the indigenous movement has gone through the process of institutionalization under the government of Morales, what is reflected in the growing number of indigenous representatives in legislative and executive organs. However, the institutionalization, which was a considerably selective process and preferred representatives of some organizations (CSUTCB, Bartolina Sisa) to others (CIDOB, CONAMAQ), has had different implications on mobilization activity of individual organizations. While CSUTCB, the organization with most representatives in the state structure, almost stops its mobilization under the Morales, or even mobilizes in defence of the government, the other organizations, such as CIDOB and CONAMAQ not only maintained but even intensified their mobilization levels in the course of Evo’s government. Thus, the results indicate that there is a connection between the institutionalization and the protest activities of the indigenous movement in Bolivia.cze
