Abstrakt
The research article deals with various approaches to background studies of English-speaking countries. It attempts to compare and define the semantic content of this notion and its English and Czech translation equivalents. Further, comparative analysis of both English and Czech curricular documents has been conducted to find out the degree of incorporation of background studies into foreign language teaching.
